Morpeth RFC Pitch and Training Areas Protocol
To All Morpeth RFC Members
We are delighted with the growing number of players at Morpeth RFC but sadly that brings with it intense competition for training and playing areas.
It is exceedingly important that we take particular care of our four pitches in bad weather to extend their use for games (Pitch 1 and 2 at Grange House Field, Pitch 3 over the bridge and Pitch 4 at the common).
To enable this, the following protocol will be consistently applied. If in any doubt, please liaise with John Dungait who devotes many hours to preparing the surfaces we pride ourselves in at Morpeth.
In most conditions pitches may be used for team runs and organisation. Under no circumstances can they be used for repetitive training like lineouts, scrummaging or warm up relays - even when the weather is kind and pitches are dry, repetitive use has a lasting detrimental effect.
The definition of the pitch includes playing surface and dead ball areas and the area used by touch judges.
We now need to be particularly careful with Pitch 2 given the match standard floodlights. It is an opportunity to play games that could alleviate pressure at weekends. It is even more important that there is no repetitive use of a particular area of the pitch.
The training areas are there to be used, in most weathers, please move around so the areas aren’t unnecessarily churned up or worn out.
Whilst no winter is ever the same, we will look to train away from the Club, where possible, from mid-November to mid-February. This ensures that training has the best chance of going ahead and in turn this will help the fitness and development of Players.
Any match use of the pitch must be booked by contacting John Stafford, Chairman of Rugby, and we would like to discourage floodlit matches in the months of December and January.
In the event of games being cancelled due to bad weather, there will be no training during that period on the Grange House Field pitches or training areas.
Your assistance in this matter is appreciated.
