Agrics started strongly and deservedly took the lead, with a converted try, after 14 minutes. Farmers hit back with a Tiger Brash try, after 25 minutes. The Agrics had more try scoring opportunities, in the first half, but couldn’t convert their chances.
Farmers started second half strongly but couldn’t make it over the whitewash, a try did come though after 59 minutes from Dan Lynn.
A very competitive game with both defences being tested and good to see 42 players involved in the game.
The Agrics did make amends, post-game, by winning the traditional Boat Race..
David Turnbull Trophy for the Winning Team – Farmers.
Ali Johnson Trophy for Man of the Match – Jack Donaldson of the Farmers.
Yet again a great atmosphere at the Club, with the Agrics again bringing 2 full bus loads, arriving at 2.35pm & leaving at 8.35pm – a packed 6 hours with good rugby, craic & post-match fun games.
The Annual Farmers fixture dates to 1980 when they played Kirkley Hall Students & this fixture was last played in 2012.
This is the 12th time this game has been played, after John Goodfellow & Rob Leiper suggested playing the Agrics, as Kirkley Hall were struggling to field a team.
Thankyou to all involved on the day – including:
Gary & all the bar staff.
Sandra & all the kitchen staff, for providing excellent food for the players & sponsors.
Adam Grieve for organising the Farmers team, made up of Morpeth, Alnwick & Tynedale Agriculturists.
John Goodfellow for pulling together 60 Sponsors.
Northumberland Referee Andy McDonough.
2026 – Wednesday 4th of March – see you there!
